Every single device which is connected to the web has a special identifier known as IP (Internet Protocol) address. This includes PCs, web servers, smart phones, switches, etc. The pool of IP addresses, which was introduced at first, has already been distributed, therefore the so-called IPv4 IP addresses are gradually getting replaced with IPv6 addresses. Every domain which opens a site comes with an IP record, which is the address of the server where it's hosted. With the IPv4 system, the record is called A and it comprises of 4 sets of numbers from 1 to 255 separated with a dot, while in the IPv6 system it is called AAAA and it is comprised of 8 groups of hexadecimal numbers i.e. this sort of records use digits from 0 to 9 and letters from A to F. An example of an AAAA record is 2010:0c48:43d3:2142:1012:8c3a:2475:2435 and this format works with a substantially bigger amount of IPs than the IPv4 format.
AAAA Records in Hosting
If you want to create a new AAAA record a domain or subdomain hosted in your hosting account, it won't take you more than a few basic steps to do that. Our in-house built Hepsia CP is rather intuitive to use and it'll allow you to set up or change any record with ease. After you log in and navigate to the DNS Records section, where you'll discover all present records for your domain addresses and subdomains, you'll simply have to click on the "New" button, choose AAAA from a small drop-down options menu inside the pop-up which will show up, enter or paste the required IPv6 address and save the change - it is as simple as that. The new record shall be fully live within no more than one hour and the hostname you have created it for is going to start opening whatever content you have with the other provider. When required, you are also going to be able to modify the TTL (Time To Live) value, which signifies the time in seconds the new record will be live after you eventually change it to something different or you simply delete it.
AAAA Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting
When you've got a semi-dedicated server account from our company and you need to create an AAAA record for a domain you have hosted in it or a subdomain you've created, it'll take you just a few clicks inside the Hepsia CP to accomplish this. Even though you may have never had a website hosting account before, you'll not encounter any troubles because you will use a very simple and intuitive interface. All DNS records for your domain addresses are going to be listed in a section of the Control Panel with the exact same name, so once you go there, you will see all records that have been set up automatically or manually and you will be able to create a new one by simply clicking on the corresponding button. A small pop-up shall appear, so with only several clicks you can pick the type of record that you need and for which domain name or subdomain it's going to be created. Next, simply paste the IPv6 address in a text box, save the modification and one hour later the new AAAA record will be 100% functioning. As an optional setting, you can select the length of time this record is going to be operating after you change it or delete it in the future. This is the so-called TTL, or Time To Live value of the record, which you can change from the standard 3600 seconds in case the other service provider requires it.
